I want to be a great
history teacher, like the ones that I had in middle school and high school. I
want to show students that history can be so much more than a boring history
book. I want to be able to see students understand why they need to know
something that has happened in the past. There is nothing better than to watch
a student’s light come on. I have had the opportunity to teach children how to
tie their shoes and to learn their ABC’s. I want to be able to see that light
come on in students about history, which is the reason I am excited to become a
history teacher.
My education classes have confused me in how I want to teach. I am starting to realize that there are many more ways to teach than how I originally planned to teach, or even the way that I learned. I thought that power points and notes were the only way to do things in a history class. I know that I will use those things in my class, but I hope to use some of the other things I have learned as well. I really like hands on learning and hope to add that into more of my teaching. I also want to add more in depth thinking into my class. One of the ways I have learned about that is to let students direct the class and discussions that they have. The truth of the matter is that I really will not know what I will be doing in my classroom until I have my own classroom and I know what resources are there for me to use.
